Ubud is the most looked-at place on the island — 182 entries carrying 372,000 Google reviews between them. With two days you should not be gambling, so this list does the opposite of the warung list.
Ubud is the most heavily reviewed place in Bali, and it is not close. The guide holds 182 entries here carrying 372,123 Google reviews — about 2,045 per place. Canggu has more places, 212 of them, and 274,215 reviews, or 1,293 each. Everything in Ubud has already been found. Your problem is not discovery, it is that the good things are full by eleven.
So this piece deliberately inverts the rule that most of this site runs on. Everywhere else the argument is that a place with eleven reviews and 4.9 stars is the interesting one. On a two-day trip it is not: you have four meals and one afternoon, and a closed kitchen or a bad call costs you a quarter of the visit. The filter here is 4.5 and above with at least five hundred reviews — a hundred places that are neither a gamble nor a tourist tax, and 39 of them clear 4.8.
Do not hire a car. Sixty-two of the hundred sit within a kilometre and a half of the Monkey Forest junction and 76 within two and a half; only two are further out than five kilometres. The centre is a walkable town with a traffic problem bolted to it, and between eleven and four the traffic wins. Walk in the middle of the day, ride at the edges of it.
Two days is also longer than it looks here. Of the 93 with published hours, 43 are open by eight in the morning and 66 are still serving at ten at night. The morning is the part visitors waste — the market, the walk and the good coffee are all done before the coaches arrive, and the busiest entry in Ubud, at 59,325 reviews, is the Monkey Forest. Plan around that number rather than into it.
