Twenty-six of Canggu’s forty cafés are rated 4.7 or better, which means the rating has stopped telling you anything. What still separates them is how many people have been.
The star rating has stopped working in Canggu. Of the forty cafés the guide holds here, 35 clear 4.5 and 26 clear 4.7. When almost everything on a street is rated above 4.7, the number is no longer a recommendation — it is just the local temperature. You cannot choose a coffee in Canggu by sorting on stars, and that is exactly what every list of Canggu cafés asks you to do.
What does still separate them is volume, and the split is unusually clean. Twelve of the forty carry more than a thousand Google reviews; twelve carry fewer than two hundred. There is barely a middle. Those are two different kinds of business — the one people ride across town for and the one that belongs to the four streets around it — and knowing which you are walking into matters more than the eleventh place of a decimal. The order below weights rating against review count for that reason, so a 5.0 from nine friends does not outrank a 4.8 from nine thousand people.
It is also worth saying that “Canggu” is an administrative fiction. These forty are the largest single cluster of the 348 cafés in this guide, but Pererenan next door has 33 and Tibubeneng has 27, and nobody standing on the road can tell you where one ends. The real scene is about a hundred cafés across three names, spread over roughly four kilometres — not the single strip the phrase implies.
Two practical notes from the data. Twenty-three of the 39 with published hours are open by seven in the morning, which is the one genuinely Canggu-shaped fact here: this is a place that surfs first. And the price bands run from Rp 25–50K to Rp 75–225K, a fourfold spread for what is broadly the same breakfast, so check the band before you sit down.
