The Warung List: Where People Actually Eat
Sixty restaurants rated 4.6 and up, seen by almost nobody, where the bill tops out at Rp 125,000. Twenty-six of them sit at 4.9 or above.
A restaurant with four hundred reviews and 4.4 stars is a safe dinner. A restaurant with eleven reviews and 4.9 is either an error or the best meal of your trip, and Google will not show it to you, because Google ranks by confidence and confidence is mostly volume. That argument now belongs to the chefs piece. What this list adds is the second filter, and it is the more useful one: money.
Every place here has a published Google price band that tops out at Rp 125,000 or below — six or seven euros for the most expensive thing on the menu. Twenty-four of the sixty top out at Rp 50,000. The chefs list starts where this one ends, at Rp 150,000 and up, which means the two share no entries at all. They used to. Before the price filter existed, seven of the twenty places on each page were the same seven places, and the site was publishing one list under two headlines.
The rating end of the filter is 4.6 with under 250 reviews, and the result is lopsided in a way worth looking at: 26 of the sixty sit at 4.9 or better and nine are on a flat 5.0. All sixty together carry 5,832 Google reviews — fewer than a single busy Canggu café manages on its own. Thirty-eight have under a hundred, twenty have under fifty.
Two honest limits. Fifteen restaurants that pass every other test have no published price band, and an unknown is not a claim, so they are not here. And the geography is telling on itself — Mengwi and the Tanah Lot coast supply eighteen of the sixty, which is to say the cheap brilliant food is mostly inland and mostly a ride away from wherever you booked. Some of these will have closed. That is the deal.
