Where to Stay in Bali: A Deliberately Short List

Twenty-four places, not two hundred. This guide was built by someone who lives here, and people who live somewhere do not collect hotels.

Every other Bali guide has a thousand hotels in it, because every other Bali guide is paid a commission on the booking. This one has twenty-four, and the reason is simple: it grew out of a Google Maps collection kept by someone who already had somewhere to sleep.

So treat this as what it is — the handful of places worth knowing about if you are putting friends up, or moving between areas for a week. For anything more systematic, the booking sites are genuinely better at this than a person with a saved list.
